REDLANDS, Calif. - The Austin College men's water polo team dropped both of its games on Sunday on day two at the Inland Empire tournament to open the 2023 campaign, falling 21-6 to the top-ranked team in Division III, Redlands, and 17-5 to Division II opponent Concordia University Irvine.

Against No. 1-ranked Redlands, the 'Roos fell behind 2-0 early before Nikolas Koelzer found the back of the cage to get Austin College on the board. Jack Stack would square things up shortly after, but Redlands closed the quarter on a three goal run to make it 5-2 after one. The margin grew to 10-2 midway through the second before Nicholas Bates tallied to break the scoring run, but Redlands put two more away to make it 12-3 at the break.

The 'Roos then took on Division II opponent Concordia Irvine, falling behind 3-0 in the opening quarter before a goal from Tobias Ward got them on the board. Austin College would find itself trailing 9-2 at halftime, and the Concordia lead would grow to 11-2 heading into the fourth.

The CUI lead grew to 13-2, when Sury and Dylan McArthur scored back-to-back goals to cut it to 13-4, but CUI responded with two goals of their own to push the margin back to double-digits. Sury scored once more in the period to cut it to 15-5, but Concordia would score the final two goals of the game to make it a 17-5 final.
