Volleyball Falls Twice in SCAC Competition

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team dropped both of its matches on Friday in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, falling by scores of 3-1 to both Texas Lutheran and St. Thomas in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 11-13 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

In the first match of the day against TLU, the 'Roos led by 11 points late in the opening set before Texas Lutheran battled back and took a 28-26 win. Austin College took the second set 25-17, but the Bulldogs took the next two sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-12 to close out the match. Riley Abernethy had 11 kills for Austin College, as the 'Roos had just a .135 hitting percentage as a team, and Olivia Linton had eight kills in the defeat. Cheyenne Dantonio added seven kills and four block assists, and Victoria Smith had six kills. Chloe Miller had 28 digs to lead the 'Roos defensively, while Madison Manning had 22 assists and eight digs and Brianne Tseng had 20 assists and six digs. Alyssa Holloway added 15 digs in the match.

Against St. Thomas, the 'Roos took the opening set 25-23 before the Celts came back to win the next three by scores of 25-19, 25-9, 25-23 to hand Austin College the loss. Austin College hit just .040 as a team in the match, with 32 attacking errors against 39 team kills. Abernethy had eight kills and 11 digs to lead Austin College, and Smith, Linton, and Brianna Barch each had six kills in the loss. Dantonio had five kills and four total blocks, including two block solos. Tatum Torres had a team-best 16 digs, and Tseng finished with 17 assists and 12 digs. Manning chipped in 13 assists and eight digs for Austin College.
