'Roo Swimming Falls to Southwestern

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams had some strong performances but came up short against visiting Southwestern University, with the women falling 135-85 while the men dropped a 146-75 decision on Saturday in Hannah Natatorium.

Liberty Chanin captured first place in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:53.46 and Samantha Thiele took first in the 100 breaststroke, coming in with a time of 1:09.37, nearly nine seconds faster than the second place finisher from Southwestern. Thiele added a second place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching with a time of 25.86, just .16 seconds off of the first place finisher.

Max Saenz delivered a first place finish in the 50 free for the men, coming in with a time of 22.22, and Charles Stafford was first in the 100 free with a time of 51.32. Saenz captured first place in the 100 butterfly, as well, coming in with a time of 53.82, more than three seconds faster than the second place finisher. 

Back on the women's side, Thiele added another first place finish in the 400 individual medley, coming in with a time of 4:46.79, and the team of Chloe Hunt, Eleanna Martinez, Chanin, and Lauren Olivier took first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.63. The 'Roo men also took first in the 200 free, with Stafford, Saenz, Sean Cookson, and Alex Lai finishing with a time of 1:33.07.
