'Roo Softball Run-Rules Dallas to Open Weekend Series
IRVING, Texas - The Austin College softball team used a huge fifth inning to finish their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series opener at the University of Dallas on Friday, plating 11 runs in the frame on their way to a 13-0 victory. The 'Roos are now 1-19 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
IRVING, Texas - The Austin College softball team used a huge fifth inning to finish their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series opener at the University of Dallas on Friday, plating 11 runs in the frame on their way to a 13-0 victory. The 'Roos are now 1-19 overall and 1-9 in conference play.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings, with Austin College finally getting on the board in the top of the fourth with RBI singles by Hailie Swiatkowski and Emily Autrey to make it a 2-0 game. In the next inning, the 'Roos exploded for 11 runs to put the game well out of reach, with Reagan Brinkley getting things started with a two-run siingle, followed by an RBI single from Hannah King to make it 5-0.
The margin grew to 6-0 on a run-scoring base hit from Kassidy Bradshaw, and Swiatkowski and Autrey each knocked in another run apiece to push it to 8-0. Ashlynn Brothers brought home the next run, and Brinkley reached on an error, scoring Jaydn Myers, before Hannah King capped off the inning with a base-clearing double to make it a 13-0 game, and Alexus Johnson closed the door in the bottom of the frame to earn the complete game victory.
Johnson scattered four hits in 5.0 innings of work for her first win of the season, while King went 2-for-4 with four RBI, Brinkley was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Bradshaw finished 3-for-4. Tori Fowler added two hits and two stolen bases, and Swiatkowski and Autrey each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs each. Kristiana Guerra took the loss for Dallas, surrendering six runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of action. Austin College and Dallas wrap up the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
