SHERMAN, Texas - After coaching the Austin College softball program in an interim capacity in the 2023 season, Brandon Johnson has been named the full-time head coach for the 'Roos by athletics director David Norman.

"We are excited to have Brandon continue directing the program," said Norman. "He's been a terrific addition to the Austin College community. Brandon's passion for and knowledge of the game, as well as the way he has mentored his student-athlete this season, make him an ideal fit to continue to lead the team."

This season, the 'Roos saw improvement in a number of statistical categories, with the overall team batting average increasing from .245 in 2022 to .290 this season, as well as upticks in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and home runs. The team also scored 41 more runs this season than a year ago, while also seeing a decrease in overall team earned-run-average from its pitching staff. In addition, Austin College's team fielding percentage saw an improvement, as the 'Roos committed 12 fewer errors than a year ago despite playing one game in 2023.

"I would like to thank David Norman and Austin College President Steven O'Day for the opportunity," said Johnson. "This season has been a great and rewarding experience, and I'm eager to get back on the field with these outstanding young women to continue building a successful softball program, a fun environment, and a winning culture."
