'Roos Fall Short Against St. Thomas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team fell in a five-run hole and were unable to battle back on Sunday, dropping a 7-3 game against the University of St. Thomas. The 'Roos are now 8-18 overall and 3-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

After two scoreless innings, the Celts pushed five runs across in the top of the third thanks to four RBI doubles in the frame, capped of by a two-run double from Delayne Moreno to make it a 5-0 game. The 'Roos got three runs back in the bottom half of the inning, as Lyndsey Busch cleared the bases with a double of her own to cut it to 5-3, but St. Thomas got a solo homer from Lindsey Gonzalez in the fourth to make it 6-3, and Jaelyn Simmons drove in another run in the fifth to make it a 7-3 game.

Austin College put runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh, but the 'Roos were unable to get any more offense in their final series of at-bats. Carrie Johnson took the loss for the 'Roos, giving up two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work, while Busch paced Austin College at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with three RBI.
