Celts Defeat Austin 7-3 to Complete Sweep

SHERMAN, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas concluded a three-game sweep at Austin College by taking Sunday's contest by a score of 7-3.

The Celts (15-8, 7-2 SCAC) scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take control of the game. UST hit four doubles in the inning as they built a 5-0 lead that the Kangaroos would not overcome.

Lindsey Longuet pitched a complete for the Celts and improved her season record to 10-3. Longuet struck out four batters and did not yield an earned run in the contest.

Delayne Moreno led six different Celts players with RBIs as she went 2-for-3 in the game, hitting a two-RBI double in the Celts' five-run third inning. Mallarie Munson, Addison Lehew, and Kayleigh Deakle also hit RBI doubles in the inning.

With UST holding a 5-3 lead, Lindsey Gonzalez added a solo home run for the Celts in the top of the fourth inning. Jaelyn Simmons added an RBI on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth; Simmons also had two hits in the game, as did Deakle.

The Celts have won six consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games, sweeping their last two series. The team returns to action Saturday, April 2, when they open a three-game series with Southwestern (Texas). Saturday's doubleheader at the West University Softball Association fields is scheduled to begin at noon.
