'Roo Water Polo Dominates PSB

'Roo Water Polo Dominates PSB

BERKELEY, Calif. - The Austin College men's water polo team bounced back from a loss to Stanford University yesterday with a dominant 17-5 victory over Penn State Behrend this afternoon in the MPSF Championships. The 'Roos will move on to face Augustana tomorrow in their final game of the tournament.

The 'Roos sprinted out to a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter and that margin grew to 9-1 at halftime, and Austin College extended the margin to 14-1 after three quarters in a game the team controlled from the start. Anthony Sury got the 'Roos started in the first quarter with the first goal of the game and Dylan McArthur scored the next two, with Nik Koelzer finding the back of the cage to wrap up the first eight minutes of action.

After a goal by PSB, the 'Roos got that score right back from Aidan Wade to make it 5-1, and Tobias Ward and Jack Stack each tallied to push it to a 7-1 game. Wade scored again with 2:51 left, and Nicholas Bates put one in the goal for the final score of the opening half as Austin College put the game out of reach early. Koelzer, Sury, and McArthur each scored three times for Austin College, while Ward and Wade both finished with two goals. Stack, Bates, Joshua Nelms, and Greyson Gaworecki rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Alan Rosenberg made 12 saves in the cage for the 'Roos in the victory.

The win comes a day after the 'Roos fell 24-4 to perennial Division I power Stanford on Friday, in which Koelzer scored twice and Sury and McArthur each tallied once. Austin College will now look to close the weekend strong against Augustana, who have topped the 'Roos twice this year in closely contested games during the regular season.
