Water Polo Closes Weekend with Pair of Wins

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Austin College men's water polo team wrapped up its weekend trip to Illinois on a high note on Sunday, topping both Washington & Jefferson and Connecticut College by scores of 15-10 and 15-5, respectively, in MPSF East Division action.

Austin College used a big first quarter to go on top of W&J early, scoring five times in the opening frame including two by Aidan Wade, who would finish with two goals and two assists in the win. Austin College was dominant in the second quarter, out-scoring Washington & Jefferson 4-1 to go into halftime leading 9-4. Two early third quarter goals by Dylan McArthur made it an 11-4 game, before W&J started to close the gap a bit and made it 12-7 heading into the fourth. The lead shrank to 13-9 with 5:39 left to play, but McArthur tallied once and Greyson Gaworecki notched a goal of his own to push it to a 15-9, and the 'Roos would hold on from there.

McArthur led the 'Roos with five goals and Jack Stack pitched in three, and Tobias Ward found the back of the cage twice. Sebastian Scheier and Nic Ruggiero each scored once for Austin College in the win.

Against Connecticut College, the 'Roos raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back on their way to the 15-5 victory. Austin College's early lead grew to 6-0 in the second quarter before Connecticut College finally got on the board exactly halfway through the period. Austin College would tally once more to make it a 7-1 game at halftime. McArthur continued his big scoring day with two goals to open the third quarter and push it to a 9-1 game, and the teams would head into the fourth with the 'Roos leading 10-4. Austin College put the game away with a five goal fourth, with Wade scoring twice while Gaworecki, Ward, and Gabriel Daniels each found the net to close out the game.

McArthur had four goals to lead Austin College and Wade and Gaworecki each had three, while Daniels, Stack, Ward, Scheier, and Viktor Buscemi each scored once. Alan Rosenberg had six saves while minding the cage for Austin College.
