Men's Water Polo Wins Pair in Pennsylvania

ERIE, Pa. - The Austin College men's water polo team won two of their four games over the weekend in Pennsylvania, topping Penn State Behrend 13-7 and Washington & Jefferson 14-9, while falling to Augustana 15-11 and Mercyhurst 11-6.

In the weekend opener against PSB, the 'Roos got three goals apiece from Anthony Sury and Dylan McArthur, and a pair each from Jack Stack and Andrew Galt. The 'Roos led 2-1 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 5-1 at halftime, and after PSB clawed back to make it 6-4, Austin College scored the last two goals of the third quarter to make it 8-4.

The 'Roos would then out-score PSB 5-3 in the final quarter to earn the win. Aidan Wade, Nic Ruggiero, and Sebastian Scheier each tallied once and Alan Rosenberg had 18 saves minding the cage.

Austin College took a 3-2 lead over Augustana after the opening quarter of the team's second game on Saturday, but Augustana scored four unanswered in the second to make it 6-3. The 'Roos found themselves trailing 9-6 through three quarters, and were unable to close the gap in the fourth. Wade, Sury, and Ruggiero each tallied twice, and McArthur, Stack, Scheier, and Tobias Ward scored once each in the loss while Rosenberg made 15 saves.

The 'Roos wrapped up their Saturday against Mercyhurst, trailing 2-1 after the first quarter and 6-3 after two. Mercyhurst out-scored the 'Roos 3-2 in the third quarter and 2-1 in the fourth to put the game away. Rosenberg had seven saves for Austin College, while offensively the team was paced by Stack's three goal performance. Sury, Galt, and McArthur each found the back of the cage once in the defeat.

Austin College completed its weekend trip on Sunday with a big win over Washington & Jefferson, leading 2-1 after the first before heading into halftime all square at 4-4. A big third quarter put the 'Roos firmly in control, as they entered the final period with a 10-6 lead before putting the Presidents away in the fourth in the 14-9 victory. Sury found the net four times to lead Austin College, with Wade adding three scores.

Scheier added two goals, and Ward, McArthur, Gabe Daniels, Greyson Gaworecki, and Josh Nelms each scored once in the win.
