'Roos Edged by Augustana

ERIE, Pa. - The Austin College men's water polo team led Augustana for most of Sunday's game at the CWPA Division III Eastern Championship Tournament, but a big fourth quarter lifted Augustana past the 'Roos 20-18.

After falling behind 1-0, the 'Roos scored the next four goals to surge ahead 4-1, eventually closing out the opening quarter with a 6-3 lead. The margin grew to 8-3 on a goal by Max Wade with 6:34 left in the first half, but Augustana trimmed it to an 8-6 game two minutes later. The 'Roos pushed the lead to 11-7 on a tally by Dylan McArthur, but Augustana would outscore Austin College 3-2 in the closing minutes of the frame to make it a 13-10 game at the break.

The 'Roos went on top 15-11 early in the third quarter, but that's when Augustana started to battle back, ultimately tying things up at 16-16 to force overtime. The Vikings took an 18-17 lead midway through extra time, and would hold off the 'Roos for a 20-18 final score.

McArthur and Aiden Wade each scored four times to lead the 'Roos offensively, while Max Wade and Cade Griffith scored three times apiece. Andrew Galt added a pair of goals and Nikolas Koelzer scored once for Austin College in defeat.

Griffith was named first team All-Tournament for his outstanding performance over the weekend, while Max Wade was also recognized for his big weekend as a second team All-Tournament performer.
