'Roo Men's and Women's Tennis Falls to Southeastern Oklahoma

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams each fell in their season opener against NCAA Division II opponent Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, with the men dropping a 7-0 decision while the women fell 8-0.

On the men's side, the 'Roos team of Brett O'Brien and Calum Robe dropped their line one doubles match by a score of 8-1, while Tate Nelson and Joseph Carrillo fell 8-2 and William Dixon and Storm Simonin lost 8-0 at lines two and three, respectively. O'Brien was topped in flight one singles by a score of 6-2, 6-2, with Robe falling 6-3, 6-1 playing number two singles. Nelson dropped his flight three singles match 6-3, 6-0, and Matthew Cochran lost 6-0, 6-1 playing fourth line singles.

For the women, the team of Gigi Francis and Phoebe Shapard put up a strong showing but fell short at line one doubles, falling 8-4 while Maya Leisey and Madelin Hiler dropped an 8-0 match on line two. Elena Aventa and Danielle Saltzman also fell 8-0 playing flight three doubles. Francis fell 6-2, 6-3 at number one singles, while Shapard went down by scores of 6-4, 6-2 playing number two. Leisey fell 6-0, 6-0, Aventa 6-0, 6-1, and Saltzman 6-1, 6-0 to round out the completed matches.
