Cruz Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighing our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's soccer player Lina Cruz.

Cruz, a senior from Dallas, helped lift Austin College to a season-opening victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior on August 30. In the program's first match under new head coach Michele Housden, Cruz tallied a pair of goals in a 3-1 victory over the Yellowjackets. Cruz keyed the offense all weekend for the 'Roos, playing a big role in the team's 1-0 victory over Louisiana College on September 1, as well. With those two victories, the 'Roos find themselves 2-0 for the first time since the 2014 campaign.

Cruz is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and last season finished second on the team in goals scored. For her career, Cruz now has seven goals and three assists, for a total of 17 points, and has started 40 games in 52 career appearances as a midfielder and forward.
