Women's Water Polo Rolls Into CWPA Semifinals

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Austin College women's water polo team had a big offensive effort in the team's opening round game of the CWPA Championships, topping Penn State Behrend 21-9 to advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Austin College did most of its damage in the first half, putting seven goals on the board in the opening quarter before erupting for nine in the second to take a 16-7 lead into halftime. Cory McGrath and Joslyn Dimitri each scored twice in the second period, while Alyssa Ross put two in the back of the cage in the first quarter. 

The third quarter was a low-scoring one, with Austin College getting tallies from Ross and McGrath while PSB was held to one goal, making it 18-8 heading into the final frame. Dimitri, McGrath, and Sofia Guzman each scored in the fourth to put the game away and give the 'Roos the 21-9 victory. McGrath finished with five goals while Dimitri and Ross each added four in the victory. Bianca Gallegos, Kylee Noble, and Ashley Chand each scored twice, and Emma Boyce rounded out the scoring, joining Guzman with one goal.

Austin College, which entered the tournament as the No. 3-seed, will now take on No. 2-seed Macalester on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (EDT).
