Women's Water Polo Crushes Carthage and Macalester

KENOSHA, Wis. - The No. 6-ranked Austin College women's water polo team cruised to a pair of victories in CWPA play on Saturday, blanking host school Carthage 19-0 before topping Macalester 16-4. The 'Roos are now 8-7 overall, including 7-1 against Division III competition.

Lexi Wong scored four times and Lauren Olivier found the back of the cage three times in Austin College's dominant win over Carthage, and Erin McCormack recorded the first shutout in program history with 10 blocks in goal. The 'Roos roared out to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter and led 16-0 at halftime before putting the game on cruise control in the final two periods, scoring twice in the third and once more in the fourth to cap off the dominant performance. 

The 'Roos saw 12 different players tally at least one goal in the win, with Shannon Berry and Abigail McCants each finding the net twice. Alyssa Ross, Brooke Le, Presley Woods, Madison Taylor, Kylee Noble, Aubrey Pasky, Kalissa Niles, and Sammi Thiele each scored once in the victory.

Against Macalester, the 'Roos took a 5-1 lead after the opening quarter and went into halftime leading 8-3, before completely taking charge in the second half. The 'Roos led 12-4 heading into the fourth quarter, and held Macalester scoreless in the final frame on their way to the 16-4 win. Wong paced the 'Roos with five goals, and Le added three. Olivier found the net twice, while Thiele, Berry, Niles, Ross, Woods, and Taylor each scored once. Valery Piachonkina made six blocks in the win, with McCormack making five as the duo split duties in the cage for Austin College.
