Women's Water Polo Goes Unbeaten in Ohio

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The No. 5-ranked Austin College women's cruised to a quartet of victories over the weekend on the campus of Wittenberg University, topping the host school 19-6, Carthage 19-3, Augustana 12-7, and Macalester 17-5. The 'Roos are now 6-6 overall, including 5-1 against Division III opponents.

In the weekend opener against Wittenberg, the 'Roos jumped out to a 14-2 halftime lead and never looked back, and got six goals from Brooke Le and three from Lexi Wong in the win. Valery Piachonkina had 10 blocks in goal for Austin College, and Alyssa Ross, Madison Taylor, and Cory McGrath each chipped in a pair of scores.

Against Carthage, the 'Roos once again used a huge first half to take a big lead at 16-2 at the break and cruised from there. Le and Shannon Berry each tallied three times in the win, and Maddie Jacks scored twice. Wong, Taylor, and Ally DeRado also added two goals apiece in the win and Piachonkina was once again stellar in goal with eight blocks.

The 'Roos got their biggest challenge of the weekend against No. 9-ranked Augustana, but a four goal performance from Wong helped lift the 'Roos to the 12-7 win, marking their second victory of the year over a team ranked in the top 10 nationally. Le scored twice more, and Aubrey Pasky tallied two times as well. Piachonkina had 10 blocks, and Erin McCormack added six blocks in between the pipes.

Austin College wrapped up the weekend with another dominant win over Macalester, as Wong scored five times and Le kept her big weekend going with four goals. DeRado chipped in two tallies, and Ross, Taylor, McGrath, Lauren Olivier, Kalissa Niles, and Presley Woods each found the back of the cage once.
