'Roos Headed to CWPA Championship Game

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Austin College women's water polo team is headed back to the CWPA Division III championship game on Sunday after the 'Roos dominated host school Carthage 17-2 on Saturday. The 'Roos will take on Wittenberg for the title.

The 'Roos jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, with Sophie Oliver tallying first and Brooke Le adding another goal to make it 2-0 after two and a half minutes of action. Madison Taylor added a goal, and Oliver found the back of the cage one again to finish out the period. Oliver tacked on two more goals in the second to push it to a 6-0 lead before Carthage finally got on the board, scoring with 1:33 left to cut it to a 6-1 game. However, Taylor would tally again with 32 seconds on the clock to make it 7-1 at the break.

The margin grew from there as Le scored again to open up the third quarter, and Lexi Wong scored a pair of goals in under a minute, first with 1:41 left and again with 1:14 on the clock to make it 10-1. Taylor would score just before the buzzer to send the 'Roos into the final quarter leading 11-1. The 'Roos would coast through the fourth quarter, out-scoring Carthage 6-to-1 in the period to make it a 17-2 final. Cory McGrath scored twice and Maddie Jacks, Kendall Katusak, Molly Corso each had a goal apiece in the victory for Austin College

Austin College and Wittenberg will square off at noon on Sunday to decide the CWPA Division III Championship.
