Austin College Edged by Siena and Bucknell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Austin College women's water polo team performed well but came up short against Division I opponents Siena and Bucknell on Saturday, falling by scores of 16-13 and 13-8, respectively. The 'Roos are now 0-4 on the season.

Lexi Wong scored seven goals against Siena and the 'Roos led 5-3 after the opening quarter, but Siena would trim the margin to 8-7 heading into halftime. A big third quarter put Siena ahead 12-9 going into the fourth quarter, where Austin College got two goals from Presley Woods and a goal apiece from Wong and Madison Taylor, but it would not be enough in the 16-13 defeat. Woods finished with three goals, and Taylor, Brooke Le, and Shannon Berry scored one goal each in the loss.

Against Bucknell, the 'Roos found themselves trailing 4-1 after the first quarter and 11-2 at halftime. Austin College tallied twice in the third and four times in the fourth but it would not be enough to overcome that halftime deficit, making it a final scored of 13-8. Le scored three times to lead the 'Roos and Wong added a pair of goals, while Woods and Taylor each found the back of the net once. Valery Piachonkina had seven blocks in goal for Austin College.
