'Roo Water Polo Falls to Brown and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Austin College women's water polo team fell in its first two games of the 2020 season on Friday, dropping a 14-6 decision against host school and Division I opponent Brown University before falling 14-4 against Division III No. 3-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Against Brown, the 'Roos trailed by only three goals at 8-5 midway through the third quarter, but three straight goals to end the period put them behind 11-5. After a goal from Brown the 'Roos tallied to make it 12-6 in the fourth, but another two goals for the Bears made it a 14-6 final. Sophie Oliver scored twice to lead the 'Roos, while Maddie Jacks, Brooke Le, Lexi Wong, and Kate Askew each found the back of the net once in the loss.

The 'Roos jumped on top of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2-1 early but CMS responded with eight unanswered tallies to go on top 9-2 before Wong scored to make it a 9-3 game with 29 seconds left in the second quarter. However, CMS would put one more goal on the board just before the half to take a 10-3 lead into the break. The margin grew to 14-3 before Austin College scored once more to make it a final score of 14-4.
