Volleyball Splits with Tigers and Dickinson

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College volleyball team took one of two matches on the campus of Colorado College on Friday, falling 3-1 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tilt against the host Tigers before bouncing back with a 3-2 non-conference win over Dickinson College. The 'Roos are now 13-10 overall and 5-3 in SCAC play.

In the day's opening match against Colorado College, the Tigers took the first set 25-20 before the 'Roos evened things up with a 25-20 win of their own in set two, but wins of 25-16 and 25-19 in the third and fourth sets gave the home team the four-set victory. Mattie Duncan, TJ Folse, and Jazmyn Kizziar each had seven kills to lead Austin College and Victoria Larson added six, while Folse also matched Laynie Kovacs for the team lead with 11 digs.

Brianne Tseng had 17 assists and six digs for the 'Roos, and Madison Manning added 15 assists and nine digs. Tatum Torres posted 10 digs and tied with Kovacs for the team lead with three service aces in the loss.

The 'Roos dropped the opening set against Dickinson 25-14, but came roaring back with a decisive 25-7 second set victory. Austin College then battled to a 27-25 win in set three before Dickinson forced a fifth set, taking the fourth 25-20. However, the 'Roos clinched the match with a 15-11 victory in the set five.

Duncan had 11 kills and seven block assists in the win for the 'Roos, and Folse added 10 kills and 18 digs. Kizziar had another strong match, finishing with 10 kills, five digs, and three block assists. Kovacs paced the 'Roos defensively with 23 digs and Madison Manning had a team-best 22 assists to go along with 12 digs, and Tseng finished with 16 assists.

Austin College will be back on the court on Saturday, as they head from Colorado to Houston to take on SCAC opponent St. Thomas at 1:00 p.m.
