'Roo Volleyball Falls to Southwestern and Trinity

HOUSTON, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team dropped both of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Saturday, falling 3-0 to Southwestern University and 3-2 to Trinity University on the campus of the University of St. Thomas. The 'Roos are now 12-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

HOUSTON, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team dropped both of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Saturday, falling 3-0 to Southwestern University and 3-2 to Trinity University on the campus of the University of St. Thomas. The 'Roos are now 12-9 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The 'Roos dropped their opening match against No. 17-ranked Southwestern by scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-17, with Austin College hitting .000% as a team, finishing with 24 kills and 24 attacking errors in the match. Samantha Graham had a team-high nine kills and TJ Folse added six, adding four digs and a pair of assists. Laynie Kovacs paced the 'Roos defensively with 17 digs, and Madison Manning posted a team-best eight assists and chipped in seven digs. Tatum Torres had eight digs in the loss for Austin College.

Against Trinity, the 'Roos fell 25-17 in the opening set before bouncing back with a 27-25 win to even things up. The Tigers took the next set 25-18, but once again Austin College responded with a win in the fourth set, taking it 25-20. However, Trinity clinched the match with a 15-12 fifth set victory. Folse and Graham each had 13 kills to lead Austin College, with Folse adding 21 digs. Graham also had six digs and two total blocks, while Kovacs led Austin College with 32 digs and Torres had 29. Manning posted a double-double with 25 assists and 12 digs, and Brianne Tseng had 17 assists and eight digs. Victoria Larson added 12 kills and Mattie Duncan contributed nine kills in the loss.
