'Roo Volleyball Sweeps St. Thomas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team returned home for the first time since early September and stayed unbeaten in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of visiting St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the SCAC with the victory.

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team returned home for the first time since early September and stayed unbeaten in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of visiting St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the SCAC with the victory.

Austin College fell behind early in all three sets but came storming back to pull out the win, coming away with victories of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-19. The Celts took the first four points in the opening set and led 21-17 before the 'Roos came storming back for the win, shifting the momentum to their side and helping eventually secure the victory. Mattie Duncan led a balanced attack for the 'Roos with nine kills, and TJ Folse and Rita Araya each had eight kills in the win. Folse added 11 digs, while Duncan had five block assists and Araya had three.

Laynie Kovacs had 23 digs to pace the 'Roos, and Madison Manning paced the 'Roos with 20 assists and added nine digs. Brianne Tseng added 12 assists and six digs for Austin College, and Samantha Graham chipped in six kills and three block assists. The 'Roos are back in action tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. when they host Colorado College in another SCAC match.
