Araya Named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week

SUWANEE, Ga. - Austin College volleyball player Rita Araya has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performance over the weekend, the league office has announced.

Araya, a sophomore middle hitter from Richardson, was unstoppable at the net for Austin College, posting 23 total blocks as the 'Roos went 3-1 over the weekend. Araya had three matches with at least five total blocks, averaging 1.53 blocks-per-set, and had a high of nine total blocks in a four-set win over LeTourneau. She currently ranks third in the conference with an average of 1.13 blocks-per-set this year, and her 52 total blocks currently lead the SCAC.
