Volleyball Splits With Millsaps and Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. - The Austin College volleyball team wrapped up its weekend trip to Millsaps College with a split of its two matches on Saturday, falling 3-2 to the host school before rebounding with a decisive sweep of Belhaven. The 'Roos finished the weekend 3-1, and are now 6-6 overall on the year.

The 'Roos took the first set against Millsaps 28-26, but the Majors evened things up with a 25-22 set two win. Austin College took the third set 25-21 before Millsaps once again leveled things with a 25-22 fourth set win, and the Majors clinched the match with a 15-12 fifth set victory. TJ Folse had 20 kills and a .294 hitting percentage to lead the 'Roos, and added 27 digs, while Laynie Kovacs led Austin College with 31 digs. Rachel Sadler had a big game offensively as well, finishing with 14 kills, and Rita Araya came up big at the net with six block assists. Brianne Tseng paced the 'Roos with 23 assists, and Madison Manning added 19 assists and seven digs. Tseng also had three service aces, and Manning had two, while Tatum Torres had a strong match defensively with 13 digs. 

Austin College bounced back with a dominant performance against Belhaven, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 behind a balanced attack that saw nine different players record at least one kill. Folse led the way once again with eight kills and a .381 hitting percentage, and Sadler added seven kills and a blistering .583 attacking percentage. The 'Roos hit .295 as a team in the win, with Samantha Graham also putting together a strong match with seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Kovacs recorded a team-best 17 digs, and Tseng had 11 assists to lead the 'Roos.
