'Roo Volleyball Splits on Day Two of AC Classic

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's volleyball team dropped a tough five-set match against Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday morning, but rebounded with a decisive sweep of Shenandoah University to wrap up the Austin College Classic with a 3-1 record.

Wisconsin-Superior took the first two sets of the morning match by scores of 25-17 and 25-23, but Austin College battled back to force a fifth set after taking sets three and four by scores of 25-22. However, Wisconsin-Superior jumped on top early in the fifth set and Austin College wasn't able to close the gap, falling 15-11 to take their first defeat of the young season. 

Victoria Larson led Austin College with 12 kills and had a .345 attack percentage, while adding three block assists. Rachel Sadler had 11 kills and TJ Folse added 10 and 22 digs. Laynie Kovacs matched Folse for the team lead with 22 digs, and Brianne Tseng and Madison Manning each had double-doubles, totalling 23 assists apiece with Manning adding 13 digs and Tseng finishing with 10. Rita Araya chipped in nine kills for Austin College and Mattie Duncan had six kills and five total blocks, including two block solos.

In the second match of the day for the 'Roos, Austin College rolled past Shenandoah by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-15 to finish the weekend with a big victory. The 'Roos hit .380 as a team, compared to just .011 for Shenandoah, and Larson led a balanced attack with eight kills while Sadler and Araya each finished with seven. Samantha Graham chipped in five kills, while Duncan was dominant at the net, finishing once again with five total blocks, including four solos. Tseng paced the 'Roos with 14 assists and Manning had 12, while Kovacs had a team-best 12 digs.
