Volleyball Drops Road Match at D2 Southeastern Oklahoma

DURANT, Okla. - The Austin College volleyball team stepped out of both conference play and Division III competition on Thursday, taking on Division II program Southeastern Oklahoma, coming up short in a 3-1 defeat.

After dropping the opening set 25-18, Austin College bounced back with a hard-fought 27-25 victory in set two to even things up. However, Southeastern would finish the match with 25-14 and 25-17 wins to hand the 'Roos the defeat. Riley Abernethy had 12 kills and a .308 hitting percentage to lead Austin College, with Olivia Linton adding eight kills and Taylor Nemeth chipping in seven. Rita Araya and Samantha Graham each had six kills for the 'Roos.

Laynie Kovacs paced the 'Roos defensively with 33 digs, and Tatum Torres added 11 in the loss. Brianne Tseng led Austin College with 25 assists and added seven digs, and Madison Manning finished with 20 assists for the 'Roos. Austin College hit .219 as a team, but Southeastern finished with 10 service aces compared to two for the 'Roos, and also hit .237 collectively.
