'Roos Stay Perfect with Wins Over Champion and PQC

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team stayed unbeaten in their opening weekend of the 2023 campaign on Saturday, besting Champion Christian 3-0 and Paul Quinn College 3-1 to move to 4-0 on the year on day two of the Austin College Classic in Hughey Gym.

The 'Roos cruised past Champion Christian in the first match of the day, winning by scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-13 behind a .333 team hitting percentage as well as 11 kills from Selah Coleman. Caitlyn Benson and Brianne Tseng each had 13 assists, with Tseng adding six digs and Benson providing four. Tseng rounded out her day with three service aces. Taylor Nemeth chipped in with six kills, and Mattie Duncan added five for the 'Roos, who used a balanced attack to come away with the victory. Laynie Kovacs had eight assists and tied Tseng and Kailey Vick or the team lead with six digs, and Duncan added two block solos.

Austin College wrapped up the weekend with a 25-18, 24-26, 25-9, 25-14 win over Paul Quinn behind eight kills, four aces, and 16 digs from Riley Abernethy and seven kills and six digs from Olivia Linton. Victoria Smith added five kills and three total blocks, while Jaiden Tocquigny had a big game at the net with six total blocks to go along with five kills, and Samantha Graham added five kills as well. Tseng paced the 'Roos with 20 assists and added eight digs, and Madison Manning had 19 assists, eight digs, and a pair of aces. Alyssa Holloway had 13 digs and Kovacs chipped in 12 in the victory for Austin College.
