Austin College Volleyball Splits with Westminster and Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Austin College volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday in a hard-fought 3-2 match against Westminster, but the 'Roos bounced back to sweep Rhodes 3-0 to improve to 6-1 overall this season.

The 'Roos fell behind 2-0 in the first match of the day against Westminster, falling 21-25 and 18-25, before rallying with two straight wins to force a fifth set. After winning 25-23 in both the third and fourth sets, the 'Roos would ultimately drop the match with an 8-15 fifth set. Riley Abernethy had 11 kills and 14 digs to lead Austin College, and Brianna Barch added 10 kills. Barch added eight total blocks. Olivia Linton added nine kills and seven digs, and Brooklyn Talley had 30 assists and 11 digs in the loss. Mari Prazak led the way defensively with 25 digs.

Against Rhodes, Abernethy once again led the way with nine kills as Austin College swept the Lynx by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-21. Victoria Smith added seven kills in the win, and Barch chipped in six. Talley led the 'Roos with 16 assists and added seven digs, and Aubree McCune had 11 assists and six digs in the win. Prazak and Chloe Miller each had seven digs for Austin College.
