'Roo Volleyball Advances to SCAC Semifinals

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team swept St. Thomas 3-0 on Saturday morning in Hughey Gym in the opening round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, sending the 'Roos through to the semifinals, where they'll take on top-seeded Colorado College next week.

The 'Roos and Celts battled back and forth in the opening set with Austin College coming out on top 27-25, and the 'Roos managed to keep control in the final two sets with wins by scores of 25-21 and 25-19. Austin College was big at the net on Saturday, with 14 total blocks as a team, including five total blocks from Shelbi Cook. Cook added six kills in 13 attempts with no attacking errors. She also had four service aces.

Victoria Smith led the 'Roos with 10 kills and, like Cook, had five total blocks, and Riley Abernathy and Olivian Linton each had seven kills. Abernathy added eight digs and two block assists, while Mari Prazak led Austin College with 11 digs. Ali Horton had 23 assists and nine digs, and Brooklyn Talley had 13 assists and seven digs for Austin College.

The 'Roos head to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on the Tigers with day and time to be determined.
