'Roo Volleyball Splits with SRSU and HPU

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team split its two matches against Sul Ross and Howard Payne on Saturday afternoon, falling in five sets to the Lobos before sweeping the Yellow Jackets 3-0. The 'Roos are now 3-5 on the year.

The 'Roos came out strong against Sul Ross, taking the first set 25-16 before dropping set two 22-25. Austin College took the third set 25-21, but the Lobos responded in the fourth with a 21-25 win and clinched the match with a 10-15 fifth set final. In the two sets that Austin College won, the 'Roos had a team hitting percentage of .250 and .244, respectively, but hit just .044 in set two, .058 in set four, and .032 in set five. Christine Royalty, Bri Williams, and Shelbi Cook each had 12 kills to lead Austin College, and Allison Pierce had a team-best 25 assists. Brooklyn Talley added 21 assists and 11 digs, and Mari Prazak had 34 digs in the loss.

In the second match, the 'Roos rolled to victory over Howard Payne by scores of 25-12, 25-13, 25-14. The 'Roos hit .239 as a team, while the Yellow Jackets had just 17 kills against 19 attacking errors in the match. Karson Dykes had 12 kills to lead Austin College, and Caitlin Mahoney and Cook each had six. Pierce once again led the 'Roos with 13 assists and Talley added 11, while Prazak had 12 digs.

Austin College heads out on the road for the first time this season on Tuesday when they take on Jarvis Christian.
