'Roos Open SCAC Play with Two Victories

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team got off to a strong start in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, topping Texas Lutheran 3-2 and Schreiner 3-1 on Friday. The 'Roos are now 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC.

In the first match of the day, the 'Roos took the first set 25-17 over Texas Lutheran before falling 27-25 and 25-23 in the next two to fall behind 2-1. However, the 'Roos took the fourth set 25-17 and cruised to a 15-9 fifth set victory. Mayson Kennon had 13 kills and Aelyn Rodriguez added 12 to pace the 'Roos, with Kennon adding 16 digs while Rodriguez had seven block assists. Mari Prazak set a new career-high with 28 digs, and Brooklyn Talley had 23 assists, 11 digs, and three service aces.

The 'Roos split their first two sets against the host school Schreiner in their second match of the day, taking the first set 25-19 before falling 25-20 in set two. Austin College was dominant in the third set, winning 25-6, and took a 25-19 fourth set win to seal the victory. Kennon again led the 'Roos with 12 kills, while Rodriguez, Brooke Harris, and Christine Royalty each added eight. Hannah Arbaugh led the team with 19 digs, and Talley recorded another double-double with 19 assists and 13 digs.

Austin College will be looking to keep their strong start going on Saturday as they take on No. 7-ranked Trinity.
