'Roo Volleyball Falls to UTT, Tops LeTourneau

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team wrapped up the 21st Annual Austin College Classic with a 1-1 split on day two of the event, falling the University of Texas Tyler before turning around and sweeping LeTourneau University to close the tournament. The 'Roos are now 4-2 overall to open the year.

In the first match of the day, Texas-Tyler came out firing on all cylinders, topping the 'Roos 25-10 and 25-12 in the first two sets. Austin College fought back for a 25-21 set three victory, but the Patriots took the fourth and decisive set 25-15. Madison Lee, Dani DeWitt, and Presleigh Watson each had eight kills in the loss, while Katie Ingle had 33 assists to lead the 'Roos. Madi McVay had 17 digs and DeWitt added 11.

The 'Roos rebounded with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 win over LeTourneau in their second match of the day behind 13 kills and three total blocks from Watson. Bowden had 12 kills, as both players boasted a .400 hitting percentage in the victory. Ingle once again led the way with 36 assists, and added 12 digs. McVay paced the 'Roos defensively with 17 digs in the win.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
