Volleyball Takes One of Two to Open SCAC Play

The Austin College volleyball team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play by splitting with the University of Dallas and Colorado College, bringing the team's record to 9-3 overall this season. The 'Roos swept UD 3-0 before falling 3-1 to the No. 11-ranked Tigers.

In the team's first match of the day on the campus of SCAC crossover host Centenary College, the 'Roos fended off the Crusaders 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 to earn its first SCAC win of the year. Presleigh Watson had 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, and added four block assists in the victory. Rachel Fusselman had 26 digs to pace the 'Roos, and Katie Ingle had 21 assists to go with six kills and seven digs. Rebekah Bowden added seven kills and four total blocks.

Against nationally-ranked Colorado College, the 'Roos took the first set 25-22 before the Tigers won the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 to drop Austin College to 1-1 in SCAC play. Watson again paced the 'Roos with 11 kills, and Fusselman led the way with 20 digs. Dani DeWitt had nine kills and Ingle finished with 20 assists, seven kills, and six digs.

Austin College is back in action in Shreveport tomorrow as they take on Centenary.
