Volleyball Tops HPU, Falls to ETBU

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team fell 3-0 to East Texas Baptist before rebounding with a dominating 3-0 victory over Howard Payne to close out the AC Invitational on Saturday in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 7-2 overall this season after splitting four matches at the tournament.

In the first match against ETBU, the Tigers won by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 to hand the 'Roos their second loss of the season. Dani DeWitt led the 'Roos with seven kills and Rebekah Bowden added five, while Rachel Fusselman had a team-best 12 digs. Katie Ingle had 11 assists and five digs for Austin College in the match.

The 'Roos bounced back with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-9 victory over Howard Payne, with the team boasting a .375 hitting percentage. DeWitt again led the way with 11 kills and a .588 attack percentage, and Madi McVay added eight kills and five digs. Bowden, Reygan Holloman, and Aelyn Rodriguez each had five kills in a balanced effort while Lauren Wulz had a team-best 15 assists. Ingle finished with 11 assists and five digs, and Fusselman had 15 digs.
