'Roo Volleyball Splits on Day One of AC Invitational

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team split its two matches on the opening day of the 15th Annual AC Invitational on Friday, topping LeTourneau 3-1 before falling 3-0 to Hardin-Simmons. The loss is the first of the year for the 'Roos, who are now 6-1 on the season. 

In the first match of the day for the 'Roos against LeTourneau, Austin College picked up 25-19 and 25-21 wins in the first two sets before LeTourneau turned it on in the third, winning 25-18. Austin College regained control in the fourth set, winning 25-17 to earn the victory. Reygan Holloman had 16 kills and three block assists, and Dani DeWitt added 12 kills to pace the 'Roos.

Rebekah Bowden added 11 kills and seven total blocks, and Katie Ingle had a strong all-around match with 31 assists, 14 digs, and seven kills. Madi McVay added eight kills and 14 digs, and Rachel Fusselman led the 'Roos with 25 digs.

In the day one nightcap, Hardin-Simmons took the first set 25-21 before holding off the 'Roos for a 28-26 second set victory, and in the third set the 'Roos took an 18-15 lead before HSU scored seven straight points to take control, putting the 'Roos away 25-21. DeWitt had 10 kills to lead the 'Roos , while Ingle had six kills, 10 assists, and seven digs. Fusselman again led the way with 11 digs, and Bowden added five kills and six total blocks.

Austin College will be looking to rebound tomorrow when they take on East Texas Baptist at 12:00 p.m. and Howard Payne at 4:00 p.m. 

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
