'Roo Tennis Falls to HPU in Regular Season Finale
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams each fell by scores of 6-1 to visiting Howard Payne University in non-conference action on Saturday morning in the regular season finale for the 'Roos. Austin College will now look ahead to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in two weeks.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams each fell by scores of 6-1 to visiting Howard Payne University in non-conference action on Saturday morning in the regular season finale for the 'Roos. Howard Payne took two of three doubles matches on the women's side to head into singles competition leading 1-0, as Austin College's Bailey Standokes and Emma Davidson picked up a 6-3 line two win but Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle were bested 6-1 on line one and Karsyn Clouse and Lauren Hofeldt fell 6-2 on line three.
Clouse earned the lone point of the day for the women on line three in singles action, picking up a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory. Standokes dropped a 2-6, 0-6 line one match and Sanchez fell 1-6, 1-6 on line two, while Davidson was topped 2-6, 2-6 on line four. Hofeldt fell on line six by scores of 2-6, 0-6, and Valle battled but ultimately came up short in a 7-5, 2-6, 13-15 decision on line five.
On the men's side, the Jackets earned the point in doubles action, winning line three by default while the team of Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner fell 6-4 on line one and Joel Colunga and Cruz Rocha dropped a 6-3 line two match.
Salyer picked up a win in singles competition to celebrate his Senior Day, coming away with a 6-3, 6-1 line one victory. However, the 'Roos gave up lines five and six by default, and Rocha fell 1-6, 1-6 on line four while Fenner dropped a 6-3, 4-6, 4-10 line two match and Colunga was defeated 6-7 (4-7), 1-6 on line three.
