SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams took down NCAA Division II opponent Sul Ross State on Friday evening, with the women winning 7-0 while the men earned a 4-3 victory.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams took down NCAA Division II opponent Sul Ross State on Friday evening, with the women winning 7-0 while the men earned a 4-3 victory.
The 'Roos took a pair of points in doubles action, as Bailey Standokes and Olivia Sanchez teamed for a 6-2 victory playing on line one while Emma Davidson and Karsyn Clouse cruised to a 6-0 win on line two, while line three was not played.
Standokes continued her strong day with a 6-0, 6-1 line one victory, and Sanchez was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 win on line two. Clouse blanked her opponent on line three as well, winning 6-0, 6-0, and Davidson took a 6-0, 6-1 line four win. Kaitlin Clasby rounded out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-0 win on line five, with live six not being played to give the 'Roos a 7-0 victory.
On the men's side, the 'Roos got out to a 2-0 lead after doubles as well, as Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner won 6-0 on line one and Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga battled to a 6-4 line two win. Line three was not played.
Salyer earned a 6-3, 6-2 win on line one in singles action, while Fenner dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision on line two. After Rocha fell 4-6, 1-6, Colunga picked up what proved to be the match-clinching win on line three, winning 6-1, 6-4. The Lobos won their third point by default on line five, and line six was not played.
