'Roo Women's Tennis Tops TLU, Men Fall
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a 5-2 decision against Texas Lutheran, while the men were topped 7-0 by the Bulldogs on Saturday morning at the Jordan Family Courts at the Russell Tennis Center.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a 5-2 decision against Texas Lutheran, while the men were topped 7-0 by the Bulldogs on Saturday morning at the Jordan Family Courts at the Russell Tennis Center.
The 'Roos took two out of three in doubles competition to get the point there, with Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle teaming to win 6-4 on line one while Emma Davidson and Karsyn Clouse were topped 6-2 on line two, and Austin College got the win on line three by default to put them ahead early. Bailey Standokes fell by scores of 0-6, 1-6 playing line one in singles action, while Sanchez picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory on line two.
Clouse battled but came up short in a 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 line three match, while Valle won 6-1, 6-4 playing flight five and the 'Roos earned a win by default on line six, with Davidson earning the match-clinching victory on line four with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 victory to give Austin College its first win of the year.
On the men's side, Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner were defeated 6-1 on line one in doubles play and Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga fell by the same score on line two, and Salyer was edged 6-7, 5-7 in line one singles competition. Fenner dropped his line two match 0-6, 1-6, and Colunga was downed 1-6, 2-6 on line three. Rocha was defeated 0-6, 1-6 on line four, and the Bulldogs picked up the final two points on lines five and six by default.
Austin College is back in action on Sunday morning when they host the University of St. Thomas in another Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match.
