Austin College Tennis Falls at LeTourneau
LONGVIEW, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams dropped a road match at LeTourneau University on Sunday evening following a long day of weather delays, with the 'Roo men falling 6-1 while the women were bested 7-0.
LONGVIEW, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams dropped a road match at LeTourneau University on Sunday evening following a long day of weather delays, with the 'Roo men falling 6-1 while the women were bested 7-0.
On the women's side, the Jackets swept doubles play as Olivia Sanchez and Natalie Valle dropped a 6-3 match on line one and Bailey Standokes and Emma Davidson fell by the same score playing on line two, and Karsyn Clouse and Lauren Hofeldt went down by a score of 6-2 playing flight three.
Standokes was defeated 2-6, 2-6 on line one in singles competition, and Sanchez battled in a tough 6-3, 3-6, 0-1 (9-11) loss on line two. Davidson and Hofeldt also went into tiebreakers on lines five and six, respectively, with Davidson dropping a 7-5, 4-6, 0-1 (5-10) match and Hofeldt falling 6-7 (4-7), 3-6. Clouse was narrowly defeated 4-6, 3-6 on line three, and Valle dropped a 3-6, 1-6 decision playing at number four.
LeTourneau also swept doubles play for the men, winning line three by default, while Trey Salyer and Patrick Fenner were defeated 6-1 on line one and Cruz Rocha and Joel Colunga went down 6-0 on line two.
Colunga earned a hard-fought line four win in singles play, winning 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8), while Salyer was bested 0-6, 1-6 on line one, Fenner fell 3-6, 2-6 on line two, and Rocha dropped a 0-6, 0-6 match on line three. The Jackets took lines five and six by default to round out the scoring.
