McMurry Tops 'Roo Tennis

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams each fell to McMurry University on Sunday in the first road trip of the year for the 'Roos, with the men dropping an 8-1 decision while the women fell 9-0.

The 'Roo women dropped each of their doubles matches by scores of 8-0, with Maya Leisey and Sierra Thomas competing on line one while Tara Tran and Bailey Standokes competed at line two, and Karina Alvarez and Cynthia Zapata were bested playing flight three.

Leisey dropped a 1-6, 0-6 match at line one in singles play, and Thomas fell 0-6, 0-6 on line two. Tran played on line three for the 'Roos, dropping her match 0-6, 0-6, and Standokes was defeated 2-6, 0-6 playing line four. Alvarez and Zapata rounded things out for Austin College on lines five and six, falling by scores of 1-6, 0-6 and 0-6, 0-6 respectively. 

On the men's side, the duo of Tate Nelson and Trey Salyer earned an 8-4 victory playing flight one doubles, with Luke Henley and Jay Carrillo defeated 8-1 on line two. Mark Lobdell and Matthew Fuhr battled but came up short in an 8-3 loss on line three.

In singles action for the 'Roo men, Nelson took his match to three sets but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-1, 1-6, and Henley fell 1-6, 3-6 on line two. Salyer had another close match but was downed 3-6, 4-6 on line three, and Carrillo lost 1-6, 2-6 playing line four. Fuhr fell on line five by scores of 0-6, 2-6 and Lobdell was topped 3-6, 0-6 playing flight six.
