'Roo Tennis Sweeps Texas Lutheran

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams each posted 7-2 victories over Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Texas Lutheran on Saturday morning.

The women's team of Gigi Francis and Kylie Imperial earned an 8-4 win at line one doubles to help the 'Roos get their strong day started, while Tara Tran and Elena Aventa were winners by default at line three. Bailey Standokes and Sierra Thomas dropped a hardfought 5-8 match playing flight two doubles.

Francis added to her win total for the day with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 win at number one singles, while Imperial picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win on line two. Standokes battled to a 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory on line three, and Thomas cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win playing at line four. Tran fell 1-6, 3-6 at line five, while Aventa was the winner by default on line six to make it a 7-2 final for the 'Roos.

On the men's side, Luke Henley and Tate Nelson paired for a dominant 8-0 win on line one during doubles competition, and Jay Carrillo and Trey Salyer were nearly as dominant with an 8-1 line two win. William Dixon and AJ Wueste capped off a doubles sweep playing line three, winning 8-5.

Henly fought his way to a 6-4, 6-7, 12-10 win on line one in singles action, and Nelson picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at line two. Salyer won 6-4, 6-1 at line three, while Dixon fell 6-4, 6-7, 6-10 on line four. In line five action, Storm Simonin picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory, and Wueste was defeated 4-6, 6-6 (7-9) on line six.
