'Roo Tennis Falls to Southeastern Oklahoma in Season Opener

DURANT, Okla. - The Austin College men's tennis team fell 7-0 in its season opening match at NCAA Division II opponent Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday, while the women dropped a 6-1 decision to the Savage Storm.

Siddharth Kortikere nearly took the first set at number three singles, falling 7-6 before eventually losing the second set 6-0, while Andres Padilla fell 6-3, 6-3 at line one singles. Calum Robedropped his flight two singles match 6-4, 6-2, and teamed with Padilla in a 6-1 defeat at number one doubles. Kortikere and PJ Cabato had a strong effort against their Division II opponent at line three doubles, falling 6-3, and Preston Spivey and Brett O'Brien fell 6-0 at number two doubles.

On the women's side, Anna Sergiovanni picked up a big win at number three singles, rolling over her opponent by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Diana Carvajalino dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match at line two singles, and Melody Duong fell 6-0, 6-0 playing number one. Sergiovanni and Phoebe Shapard, along with Georgia Moore and Katie Seibert, nearly pulled out victories in doubles action, with each team falling 7-6 at line three and line two respectively. Seibert also put up a good fight at number five singles, falling 7-6 in the first set before falling 6-0 in set two. Shapard took her first set 6-3 at line six singles before falling 6-2 in line two and 10-3 in the tiebreak.
