Women's Tennis Claims Third-Place in SCAC for 3rd Year in a Row

DENISON, Tex. - At the Smith Tennis Center in Denison, TX, Austin College Women's Tennis matched their "high-water mark" for the third consecutive year, winning the third place match in the SCAC Tournament over Schreiner, 5-1.

Doubles competition was close, as the 'Roos found themselves down, or gripping a close lead on all three doubles courts.  Line 3 doubles was the first point to fall, as Georgia Moore & Katie Seibert overcame an early Schreiner lead to win 8-4.  While Line 2 hung in the balance, Diana Carvajalino and Melody Duong fought off several break points late in their pro-set to win 8-6 and seal the lead coming out of Doubles Competition.  Line 2 would eventually fall, but the Kangaroos had already grabbed the advantage they needed to pursue victory.

Duong shone in singles competition, dropping only 1 game to a very competitive opponent at Line 1.  Anna Sergiovanni dropped only 2 games to her opponent at Line 3, and Carvajalino clinched the victory for Austin College at Line 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 performance.

Over the course of the tournament, Lines 1 and 3 doubles went 2-1, and several singles players posted either an unblemished record, or won two matches for Austin College.  The team finishes 10-5 (4-1 SCAC) on the year, and is currently ranked #10 in the West Region, with Melody Duong also being ranked #49 in the Nation, and #19 in the West Region in singles.
