
Colby Mules Defeat Women’s Tennis 5-4 in SCAC/NESCAC Showdown
Duong comes from behind late in 2nd set to set up 3rd-set, last match on
AUSTIN, Tex. - In their 9th match in 12 days, the Austin College Kangaroos Women's Tennis Team fell valiantly in a match for the record books. Though Colby College would emerge victorious 5-4, the exhilarating match had more bright spots than it did dark.
Melody Duong and Grace Ortiz claimed the lone doubles point for the 'Roos while both line 2 and line 3 forced 8-6 decisions in favor of the Mules.
Carvajalino would get her revenge in singles as she was dominant in a 6-1, 6-3 victory at line 2. Georgia Moore and Grace Ortiz would fall at Line 5 and Line 4, but Katie Seibet cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at Line 6.
Melody Duong took the first set smoothly 6-1, continuing her refreshed play from the evening prior, but hit a snag in the latter games of the second set. She fought her way through it and closed on a 6-1, 7-5 win at Line 1.
Anna Sergiovanni dropped a competitive tiebreaker in the first set, but went on a three-game streak to end the second set 6-4. Her opponent would regain the control of the points in the third, and won the match 6-2 in the third.
Austin College concludes their long weeked at 10-7 (0-1), and looks forward to hosting Schreiner University on Friday, April 9th, 2018. The match at the Elizabeth Russell Tennis Center will begin at 5:30PM.
