Women’s Tennis Defeats Howard Payne 8-1
‘Roos open spring season with strong showing on the road
BROWNWOOD, Tex. - The Austin College Women's Tennis Team rolled to a decisive 8-1 victory over the Yellowjackets of Howard Payne University in their Spring opener on Friday.
Georgia Moore and Katie Seibert played aggressive doubles in their 8-3 win, claiming the first point of the day for the Kangaroos. Diana Carvajalino and Brenna McCown followed shortly with the second doubles point at Line 2 8-4, while Melody Duong and Grace Ortiz got out to a slow start, but won 7 of the last 9 games to win 8-6.
After the doubles sweep, Carvajalino and Moore wrapped up the clinching points back-to-back to put the 'Roos up 5-0. McCown battled to a third-set tiebreak victory at line 5, while Chandler Morris recorded her first dual match singles victory at Line 2 6-2, 6-1.
Austin College faces #11 regionally-ranked Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday, February 10th at 10:00AM in Abilene, Texas for their next contest.
