Kangaroo Tennis Claims Road SCAC Victory 5-4 Over Schreiner Women

KERRVILLE, Tex. – Women's Tennis moved to 8-7 (2-1) on the year with a tremendous 5-4 effort over the Mountaineers of Schreiner University.

Less than successful results from Lines 1 and 3 doubles dug the 'Roos a deep 2-0 hole against Schreiner, but Anna Sergiovanni and Katie Seibert played their best tennis of the year.  The first-year duo won 8-4 to bring the match within one going into singles competition.

Austin College got up early with 3 of 4 courts taking 6-1 victories in the first set.  But the Mountaineers did not go away early, with Kirsten Weber falling 6-2 in her second set, and Seibert dropping a close 7-6 (4) first set at Line 4.

Sergiovanni closed out Line 2 with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory, and Grace Ortiz was soon to follow with her 6-1, 7-5 win at Line 3.  Seibert would fall, but Weber would win a gutsy performance at Line 1 6-1, 2-6, 6-3, putting Magan Green (Line 5) and Anamariia Kheveli (Line 6) in a "one-win-clinches" situation.

Green made quick work of her first set 6-1, while Kheveli climbed out of an 0-3 hole to take her first set 7-5.  Though Kheveli would fall in a super tiebreaker, Green clinched the match at 5-3 with a 6-1, 6-2 performance to give the #17 Regionally Ranked Kangaroos a much needed win in the SCAC Standings.

Austin College returns to the courts in two weeks against Colorado College at the University of Texas – San Antonio Tennis Courts.  First serve will be struck at 6pm on April 21st.
