UW-Eau Claire Defeats Women's Tennis 8-1
Women struggle to compete against tough BluGold squad
SHERMAN, Tex. - It was a rough night for the Austin College Women's Tennis Team, as continued success at Line 1 Doubles spot did not carry over into the singles competition.
Grace Ortiz and Kirsten Weber continue their winning ways this Spring at the top doubles position. The Kangaroo duo fell behind early, but closed harder than they have all year, winning seven games in a row to claim an 8-3 victory over UWEC.
Weber and Ortiz would both play brilliant matches in singles, but Weber would not be able to capitalize on a tiebreaker in the first set, and Ortiz would fall in three.
Also playing wall was stand-out First-Year Anna Sergiovanni, dropping a closely contested straight set result to the BluGold's #2 player, with the second set containing a tiebreaker.
When the dust settled, Eau Claire claimed an 8-1 victory, but not before receiving a solid effort at several spots.
Austin College returns to the courts on Saturday, March 25th at 9am vs. the University of McMurry Warhawks.
