Kangaroos hop all over Yellowjackets after 3-0 start following doubles
SHERMAN, Tex. - The Austin College Women's Tennis Team won their first of four matches scheduled for this weekend; defeating the Howard Payne University Yellowjackets 8-1.
The 'Roos started up 3-0 after doubles, dropping only 6 games total on three courts. Kirsten Weber and Grace Ortiz paired their win from last weekend's contest vs. Millsaps with an 8-2 victory over Marlin/Goza.
Lines 1-3 cruised to straight set victories, while Anamariia Kheveli looked to do the same at Line 4, up a set over her opponent. But the HPU singles player fought hard to take the second set 6-3. With the match already decided 6-0 in favor of Austin College, a super-tiebreaker would be played to decide the match.
Kheveli started down 2-4, but won 8 out of the next 10 points to take the match 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (6).
Katie Barber made a splash in her singles debut at Line 5 singles 6-3, 6-1, while Shelby Bagby fell 6-2, 6-2 to a tough competitor at Line 6 with a solid approach/volley game.
Austin College returns to the Elizabeth Russell Tennis Center tomorrow morning, February 25th, against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 9AM.
