Women's Tennis Falls Late to Majors 5-4

TYLER, Tex. - With the defeat to East Texas Baptist yesterday well behind them, the Women's Tennis Team competed well on the courts at the University of Texas at Tyler, but fell late in a match clinching situation.

Kirsten Weber and Grace Ortiz played their best doubles to date, winning decisively at Line 1 8-4 to keep the team deficit after doubles competition to only 1.

Ortiz carried that confidence into her new position at Line 3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 and leveling the match for the 'Roos at 2-2.  Anna Sergiovanni was soon to follow to put the Kangaroo Women's Team ahead 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at Line 2.

Katie Seibert, having been moved to a new spot at Line 4, came out prepared to compete and frustrated her opponent by hitting all over the court, winning 6-4, 6-2.  From there, everything else would come up just right for the Majors.

Kirsten Weber fought hard deep into the 2nd set, but fell 6-3, 7-5.  Carlye Lide could not find her rhythm in the 1st set, but made a competitive match out of the 2nd set, falling 6-0, 6-4.

With the match tied 4-4, Magan Green would find herself in a "last-match-on" situation, but the Majors' Line 6 competitor was too tough, claiming the team victory with a 6-3, 6-3 result.

Austin College returns home with an opportunity to play Howard Payne University at the Elizabeth Russell Tennis Center on Friday, April 24th at 6:00pm.
