AC Women's Tennis Gets First Victory of the Spring; 9-0 vs. HPU
Lady 'Roos Sweep Howard Payne in a dominant performance on the road
ABILENE, Tex. - The Austin College Women's Tennis Team got their first win of the Spring 2016 Season in decisive fashion, defeating the Howard Payne University Yellowjackets 9-0.
Doubles competition was exciting to say the least, with Howard Payne jumping out to early leads on all three courts. But the Kangaroos made a quick and forceful surge back into the match with Kate Willis & Magan Green taking 6-straight games for an 8-5 win at Line 3.
Kirsten Weber & Grace Ortiz traded holds and breaks into extra innings with their opponents en route to a 9-7 victory at Line 1.
And in the marathon match of the afternoon, Meghan White & Carlye Lide fought off multiple match points to ultimately force the match into a tiebreaker, winning 9-8 (7-4) to complete the sweep.
The singles competition would be much of the same, as Kate Willis would roll to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at Line 5 for her second win of the day, and Anamariia Kheveli would clinch the match for the team with her 6-4, 6-0 performance at Line 4 singles.
Kirsten Weber would get her second win in a row at Line 1 Singles 6-4, 6-2, and Grace Ortiz would take Line 2 singles 6-1, 6-3 for her first win of Spring 2016.
Meghan White would also make it two in a row on the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at Line 3, and Katie Barber would complete the sweep, defeating Howard Payne's Line 6 opponent 6-0, 6-1 under the lights.
Austin College returns to action tomorrow, February 7th at 10:00am against the McMurry University Warhawks in Abilene, TX.
